TANZANIA CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION (O-LEVEL) OBJECTIVES OF SECONDARY EDUCATION IN TANZANIA

TZ FlagObjectives of Secondary Education are:

  • To consolidate and broaden the scope of baseline ideas, knowledge, skills and principles acquired and developed at the primary education level,
  • To enhance further development and appreciation of national unity, identity and ethic, personal integrity, respect for and readiness to work, human rights, cultural and moral values, customs, traditions and civic responsibilities and obligations;
  • To promote the development of competency in linguistic ability and effective use of communication skills in Kiswahili and in at least one foreign language;
  • To provide opportunities for the acquisition of knowledge, skills, attitudes and understanding in prescribed or selected fields of study;
  • To prepare students for tertiary and higher education, vocational, technical and professional training;
  • To inculcate a sense and ability for self-study, self-confidence and self- advancement in new frontiers of science and technology, academic and occupational knowledge, and skills;
  • To prepare the student to join the world of work.

Big Results Now

The Government of Tanzania has decided to prioritise the available resources to strategic sectors so as to realise the Big Results Now (BRN). The Education Sector is among the six prioritised sectors, which has developed 9 key initiatives to improve the quality of basic education and thereby increasing the pass rates in Primary and Secondary Schools. TheOfficial School Ranking as per examination results according to the performance and improvement is among the 9 initiatives. In this ranking, schools are classified into bands of three major groups namely Green, Yellow and Redrepresenting High, Medium and Low performing schools respectively. The schools' information will bring community awareness and engagement as well as improve transparency and accountability.

PRIMARY SCHOOL LEAVING EXAMINATION (PSLE) SCHOOLS RANKING

PSLE schools are ranked based on average total marks of the school which is computed by summing the total scores of each candidate in all five examination subjects divide by the total number of students sat for the examination in that school. This average score ranges between 0 to 250, the higher the average the higher the performance

CERTIFICATE OF SECONDARY EDUCATION EXAMINATION (CSEE) CENTERS RANKING

Examination Centers are grouped into two categories and ranked based on average centers Grade Point Average (avgGPA) referenced as Average GPA in the range of 1 to 5, the lower the avgGPA the higher the performance.
